Aquinas's Theory of Natural Law: An Analytic Reconstruction : Lisska, Anthony J.: Amazon.co.uk: Books

Imagine that

Bentham's Bulldog
— in his bottomless, unending depravity — started referring to utilitarianism as simply: ‘the belief that morality is objective — nothing more controversial than that! 👀’ If he did, the headlines would come fast and furious:

In an attempt to make utility maxing more palatable to the masses, Bentham would be passing off his favourite ethical theory as a much milder, more widely accepted claim about metaethics: namely, that mind-independent moral facts exist — a belief common to Kantians, contractualists, virtue theorists, and the like. Since Bentham knows what utilitarianism is, pretending utilitarianism is simply moral realism for the sake of PR would be uncool and propagandistic.
