Dear Substack,
Inspired by the generosity of two readers, who independently offered to pledge a paid subscription (from the bottom of my heart, thank you!), I’m going to open that option to everyone, and start churning out some essays/podcasts for paid subscribers only.
I’m doing this for two reasons:
It’s nice to have pocket money. I’m not desperate for cash—I can still tutor—but I am a lowly student, etc., so the more paid subscribers I have, the more time I can spend writing philosophy not on something more menial and time-gobbling.
I love writing here, and the more paid subscribers that join the inner sanctum of Awol’s Army, the more I’ll be incentivised to do it.
I’ll still be writing plenty of free philosophy, though, so no biggie if you don’t want to or can’t afford it right now—you just won’t get as much as someone who helps me financially.
So, here are the new options:
Monthly: If you still feel you’re getting something after a 7-day free trial, you can access everything for $6 a month (£5 if you’re in the UK, or the equivalent in whatever currency you use).
Yearly: If you want to save money, you can get all the same perks for $60 a year (or £48 a year for the UK, which works out at £4 a month).
Founding Member: For all the standard perks, plus my undying love, a handwritten thank you letter, an hour long Zoom call on basically whatever you want, and undue, corrupting influence on the topics I choose to write about, you could make my year with a founding member, $150/£120/year pledge.
Again, I’ll still be writing plenty of free stuff, so no pressure if you can’t afford it. Awol’s Army still needs you, if we’re going to win the battle against niche philosophical positions I don’t like.
Your faithful and trusty servant,
Amos Wollen, Esq.
